– Race of the month –

The first race of the UCI America Tour in the United States for 2018 was the Joe Martin Stage Race, a UCI 2.2 event celebrating its fourth year on the UCI calendar. The Arkansas race was originally named the Fayetteville Spring Classic when it began in 1978 as an amateur road race. It was renamed the Joe Martin Stage Race in 1989 in honour of race director Joe Martin, who had passed away the year before.

This year, the four-stage race took place on April 12-15, consisting of two road races, an individual time trial and a final criterium. The opening 167km stage around Fayetteville was won by Ruben Companioni (Holowesko-Citadel) of Cuba in a solo breakaway that put him into the leader's jersey by 38 seconds. He would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the race. Canada's Alex Cowan (Silber Pro Cycling) won the field sprint in the 176km second stage. Companioni's team mate Brendan Rhim won the short 4.8km time trial in stage 3, to come within 15 seconds of Companioni. However, the final criterium stage did not change the standings and Rhim remained in second behind the Cuban.
