The Joe Martin Stage Race, celebrating its 40th edition in 2017, was the first North American event of this season’sUCI America Tour.It took place March 30 - April 2around the city of Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the United States. This is third year the UCI 2.2 race has been part of the UCI America Tour. In conjunction with the UCI race, the Joe Martin Gran Fondo offered cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to ride on the same course as the professionals.

The four-stage race began with a prologue time trial, won by Adam de Vos from the UCI Continental Team Rally Cycling. De Vos held onto the leader's jersey through the following two stages, which both finished in bunch sprints.Lucas Haedo (UnitedHealthcare Professional Cycling Team) won the second stage, with de Vos' team mate Eric Young winning stage 3.The final stage was a criterium, held on a technical 1.7km circuit. Six riders broke clear and stayed away to the finish, despite the chasing efforts of Rally Cycling. Robin Carpenter (Holowesko-Citadel Racing p/b Hincapie Sportswear) won the stage and took the overall win by 16 seconds over de Vos.

– Focus on Eric Young (USA) –

Eric Young

American rider Eric Young, a member of the US-based UCI Continental Team Rally Cycling, is having a strong start to his 2017 season, with three stage wins already in UCI events. Young, a sprinter, began his professional career in 2011 with the UCI Continental Team Bissell, before joining the Rally squad in 2013 (previously named Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies).

For the current season, Young's results include two stage wins at the Tour of the Gila and one at the Joe Martin Stage Race; both UCI 2.2 events. Other highlights include stage wins in 2014 and 2015 at The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah (UCI 2.HC), two wins at the Tour of Korea in 2013 and a stage at the Vuelta Mexico in 2014.
