USA Dominant at Masters Track World

US cyclists dominated the UCI Masters Track World
Championships at Manchester, England, winning 25 gold medals.
Britain was second with 11 golds, while the Republic of South
Africa took three and Australia, Switzerland and Germany each
won two gold medals.
More than 250 competitors from 18 nations took part
in the six day meeting, which was staged at Manchester for the
fifth year in succession.
Outstanding performances included Butch Stinton's (USA) victory
in the 750 metres time trial (45-49 years), giving the American his
11th title in five years - a masters record.
Kent Bostick - USA |
Kent Bostick, 47, (USA) sliced a massive 15 seconds off the
masters' record for 3000 metres, recording 3' 21.065" sec en route
to the pursuit title for 45-49 year olds.
Danny Clark - AUS |
Danny Clark (AUS), winner of more than 60 six-day events,
returned to the track and scored an emphatic victory in the 30km
points race.
Renee Duprel (USA), a silver medallist in the match sprint at elite
level, made a winning debut as a master, leading a USA clean
sweep in the 30-34s' sprint.

Masters road world champion Ian Hallam (GBR) retained the Over
50s' points race title and lowered his own world best for the 2000
metres pursuit to 2' 21.837".
In the older age groups, Germany's Otto Altweg took the Over 60's
pursuit title for the third year in succession.
The championships have been awarded to Manchester again next
year and will take place from October 3-8.
